Best Pocket AM FM NOAA Weather Alert Radio

When choosing a portable or pocket AM/FM/Weather radio there is a bewildering choice of models to choose from. What's important is to choose one with the features that suit your very own personal requirements. So it's important to check out the radio for the features that you do and do not need before buying. That way you're more likely to be happy with your purchase.

The main features you will want to check are size and portability, sound quality and volume, reception quality, battery life, robustness, available wavebands and special features. A pocket radio should be of appropriate size to take and use wherever you like.

So that rules out so-called portables that are actually table top models and cumbersome to carry. It should also have enough sound volume to comfortably fill a room or liven up a picnic or a beach barbecue for example. So personal pocket radios don't qualify either.

Sound quality is important, and generally speaking the bigger the speaker the deeper and richer the sound. Some radio manufacturers, such as Tivoli, do have a reputation for outstanding sound through smaller speakers however.

Reception quality is an important aspect of the sound too. Although reception will be largely dependent on the location of your radio, some radio brands have a deserved reputation for superior antenna technology. Sangean radios are a case in point.

Although a pocket AM FM should come with a mains power source, battery life is something to consider. Especially if you use the radio outdoors. Also you will experience less interference when using batteries rather than mains power.

Some radios come with an internal battery re-charger, which is ideal. If not, it's worth while to buy an external battery charger and rechargeable batteries. It saves money. as well as the environment, in the long run.

Now for most people the AM waveband for talk radio and the FM waveband for music are sufficient for their needs. After all, there is so much choice to be found on these channels. So, unless you really want it, short wave, long wave and air band are unnecessary features you could do without. However, weather alerts or news may be important to you because of your location. In that case it's advisable to go for a radio with NOAA weather channels as well as AM FM.

Ease of use should be another factor in making your choice too. It doesn't get easier than good old-fashioned analogue dial tuning. For digital models, look for uncomplicated tuning and easy storage of pre-selected channels. Any extra features such as clock, alarm and LED lighting are nice to have. But they really should be last on the list of things that will make you happy about your radio.

If you're looking for a pocket weather alert radio, below I give some recommendations, which in my opinion the quality of these weather radios has a good quality.
